Each year the tyre regulations are reviewed and for 2013, the V8 Supercars Commission has changed the tyre rules for each event to ensure they are best suited to the best racing at each individual circuit. There continues to be a split of hard tyre-only, soft tyre-only and mixed tyre events.
Three sprint rounds – the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, the Sucrogen Townsville 400 and the Sydney 500 and all three endurance rounds – the Wilson Security Sandown 500, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and the Armor All Gold Coast 600 retain their tyre compounds as used in 2012 – see below.
Soft tyre-only rounds: MSS Security V8 Supercars Challenge (20 Soft), Tasmania Microsoft Office 360 (24 Soft), Chill Perth 360 (24 Soft), Coates Hire Ipswich 360 (20 Soft), Winton 360 (20 Soft), Armor All Gold Coast 600 (28 Soft)
Hard tyre-only rounds: Clipsal 500 Adelaide (32 Hard), ITM400 Auckland (28 Hard), Austin 400 (28 Hard), Wilson Security Sandown 500 (24 Hard), Supercheap Bathurst 1000 (32 Hard), Phillip Island 360 (20 Hard), >Sydney 500 (24 Hard)
Mixed tyre rounds: SKYCITY Triple Crown (12 Hard, eight Soft), Sucrogen Townsville 400 (12 Hard, 8 Soft – Of the tyres allocated for the meeting, only the hard compound may be used in Practice and Qualifying. Softs can only be introduced for the Top 10 Shootout, and the races).
