Well it was certainly another full-on weekend on the streets of the Surfers Paradise for the Gold Coast 600. Some of the world’s best motorsport’s biggest international names lined up alongside the Series’ regulars for this wild ride around the concrete canyons! Read what the international co-drivers had to say afterwards:
Mika Salo (Tradingpost FPR)
“… It is very satisfying to win here as we blew it last year and we blew it yesterday so at least now both my kids get a surfboard to play with in the snow back in Finland.”Mika Salo
On Twitter: One I got last year is still on my gym floor at my house,so I guess I don’t know what to do with it but it is nicest trophy I got.
Sebastien Bourdais (TeamVodafone)
“I couldn’t be any happier for Jamie. He leaves the Gold Coast with an even bigger points lead so it’s been great today.”
Will Power (Orrcon Steel FPR)
“I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed working with Mark. He is a brilliant driver and two third places give me two surfboards to take home and use on the lake I live on in Charlotte.”
Simon Pagenaud (IRWIN Racing)
“Congratulations to the boys for getting the car back together as from what I saw it was destroyed. The car was really good to drive and I enjoyed my time at the wheel. I have to say Lee is like a rocket ship at the wheel.”
Ricky Taylor (Fujitsu Racing GRM)
After rolling his car following a multi-car pile-up and left hanging upside down in his stricken Holden:
“It was rather uneventful. Kinda saw the sky a couple of different times…”
Max Papis (Jim Beam Racing)
“I saw Ricky Taylor going upside down and I passed right underneath him. It definitely wasn’t something I wanted to see.”
James Hinchcliffe (Fujitsu Racing GRM)
After his exceptionally brief V8 Supercars debut:
On Twitter: Couldn’t catch a break this weekend! But had a blast & can’t thank @GRMotorsport @michaelcaruso34 & @ricky_taylor90 for an awesome weekend!
James Campbell Walter (Wilson Security Racing)
On Twitter: Will never forget that! Started P18 & end my stint in P5. We ended up P15, so 2 top 15 finishes at Surfers. Thanks to BJR and the whole team
Justin Wilson (Pepsi Max Crew)
“These cars are so much fun to drive and I really enjoyed it, but I wish we had a better outcome. I had a great time and did some good racing. I don’t have a lot to show for it, but I have a lot of great memories.”
Marco Andretti (Jack Daniel’s Racing)
On Twitter: Lots of carnage today but fun.
Nick Heidfeld (The Bottle-O Racing Team)
On Twitter: I was so good in overtaking and outbraking people here #GC600 #V8SC that I even managed to outbrake myself once!!!
On Twitter: Eventful race:good start, got blocked, moved fwd, had contact: lost pos than gained some places, some safety cars then had to reverse end P13
Peter Kox (Team Norton DJR)
After suffering total power failure on the line in race two:
On Twitter: My race @v8supercars was short, lost all power @start, didn’t do 1 meter! Liked to have left with better feeling #tryagain!
Boris Said (VIP Petfoods)
…Unfortunately we got hit in the end, but it was a blast coming down here all week.”
Richard Lyons (TeamVodafone)
On Facebook: What a week in Oz. The GC600 certainly lived up to the hype… lots of action some more crazy then they hoped for!! Hope to be back next year and be back on the podium…!!
Darren Turner (Holden Racing Team)
“It was looking good for us today but it just didn’t happen. I’ve had an amazing weekend here and it was great that it was less of a baptism of fire than last time. It still takes time to adjust to the car as it’s so different from anything else but I have loved coming to an event run by racers where everyone competes for the love of racing. It has been an absolute pleasure and I hope to come back again next year so I can get my hands on that surfboard!”
On Twitter: Race 1 like a war today in @v8supercars Internationals really put on a show on how not to start!!! Great race though in the @holden_racing
Peter Dumbreck (Supercheap Auto Racing)
On Twitter: 3 starts, 2 red flags, 2 safety car periods and some great battling in my stint today at Surfers in Aussie V8s. An average day apparently…
